Around 40 odd years ago, I received my first pack of Tarot cards but never really took them seriously until I realised, much later in my life, that there is much more to these cards then meets the eye. The Tarot can of course be used to take a look at what is going on in one’s life and for those who have the necessary skills, they can be a valuable tool to help others gain insights into their day to day lives on what is going on or what possibilities could lay ahead. On more profound levels, however, the Tarot is one of the pathways towards the Light of self-knowledge or what can be termed ‘enlightenment’. What is so amazing is that these cards can relate to any level of awareness and make sense as well as give the necessary insights on the appropriate levels. For this type of inner work it is of course mainly the Major Arcana that is used.
The insights pertaining not only to one’s own path but also to the whole, ever unfolding as one moves forward are incredible and one is awed by starting to glimpse the level of insights, knowledge and Light of those who were around during the first part of the last century and who wrote about the subject. These people were what can be termed true initiates, often being members of the mystery schools or ‘hidden’ societies, having gained wisdom and experience of the worlds of energy that is rare to find in our New Age.
Although in our present time arcane teachings, books, information and courses are usually presented in less complicated language than before and also far more easily available, the levels of our awareness and stages of growth are still the same. We can only experience and know ourselves to levels where we are at and no theories or other people can help other than maybe offer some guidance or be supportive when the going gets a little strenuous. In other words, nobody can experience your truth for you or take away the lessons you have elected to learn & there are no short cuts since there would be no point.
As mentioned before, the Tarot is definitely one of the pathways to Light to the ‘highest’ levels one could achieve in this plane of Matter and although it is fun to also use them for prediction and maybe to help others in readings on more serious levels, it is the healing and development side of them that is the most significant. In-depth study & meditation and above all living and, where possible, applying the insights one has gained in day to day life are how to work with the cards in this manner.
We will do another workshop on the Tarot for Healing and Development on June 4th and 5th 2011 and if you would like to join this, please ask for more information and a booking form by clicking here.
